The Moroccan hammam is a ritual of heat, soap and scrubbing passed down from generation to generation. At Le Cèdre Lounge Spa, in Maârif, we practise it just as it is done at home: a stone-lined steam room, a marble bench, dimmed light and silence. This page explains how the treatment unfolds, which options we offer and how to prepare for it, so you know exactly what to expect.

How does a Moroccan hammam work?
The treatment follows a precise order, designed for the skin and the body. Each step prepares the next.
- The heat. You start with a period of rest in the steam room. The heat opens the pores, warms the muscles and releases tension.
- The black-soap wash. The emblematic gesture of the Moroccan hammam, it softens the skin and prepares it for the scrub.
- The scrub. Done with a glove, it removes dead skin and refines the skin’s texture, leaving it soft and radiant.
- Rinsing and rest. The body cools down, then you take time to relax before leaving.
Everything takes place in a private space: the room is reserved for you alone, or for you and the person accompanying you. Our team guides you at every step and adapts the pace to your wishes.

The benefits of the hammam
- Clearer skin. The black-soap wash and the scrub remove impurities and dead cells.
- Relaxed muscles. The moist heat releases the tension built up over the week.
- A real break. Silence and dimmed light help the mind slow down.
- Good preparation for a massage. Warmed skin and muscles benefit more from the massage that follows.
The hammam remains a moment of wellbeing, not a medical treatment. If you are pregnant, or have a heart condition, blood pressure problems or a skin condition, ask your doctor’s advice before booking.
Our tips for making the most of your hammam
- Arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in without rushing.
- Avoid a heavy meal just before the treatment.
- Drink water before and after: the heat makes you sweat.
- Avoid hair removal and sun exposure just before the scrub.
- If you can, follow up with a massage: it is when the body is most receptive.

Frequently asked questions about the hammam
How long does a Moroccan hammam last?
Allow about an hour for a classic hammam, longer for the more complete options. Also plan a moment of quiet rest after the treatment.
Do I need to bring anything?
No. Linen and treatment products are provided. Just arrive on time, and let us know if you have sensitive skin or a contraindication.
Can we do the hammam as a pair?
Yes. The hammam is booked privately: specify the number of people when you book.
Hammam or massage: which comes first?
The hammam. The heat prepares the skin and muscles, then the massage extends the relaxation. That is the principle of our packages, from 600 DH.
